Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control has numerous features that make monitoring, managing and provisioning databases extremely easy. Processes that would normally take numerous steps or scripts can be accomplished in a few mouse clicks using Oracle Enterprise Manager 11gR1 Grid Control. Many of these powerful features are provided through Management Packs that require additional licenses.
When you install Oracle Enterprise Manager 11gR1 Grid Control and first log into the user interface you are presented with a page explaining that many of the features require additional licensing and that your use acknowledges this. This is very similar to the notice provided when you log into Database Control for the first time. These features that require extra licenses are not disabled by default, it is the responsibility of the DBA to disable access to this features. This document will detail how to disable access to Management Packs in Oracle Enterprise Manager 11gR1 Grid Control.
Click the Setup link on the top right corner of the page above the Reports tab.
About half way down the page you will find the link Management Pack Access on the left. Click the Management Pack Access link to continue.
The Management Pack Access page is where you can enable and disable access to Management Packs on all targets and their dependent targets if necessary. You can control the access to Management Packs for more than just database targets through this page. This document however will only detail database Management Pack access.
In the middle of the page you will see a table detailing Management Packs that are applicable to the targets selected, in this case it is database.
Disabling access to Management Packs is as simple as unselecting the check box for the Management Pack and clicking apply. Note that is not the case for two packs in particular if your database is 11g. Both the Database Diagnostics Pack and the Database Tuning Pack require that the CONTROL_MANAGEMENT_PACK_ACCESS parameter be set in the 11g version of the database.
Setting the parameter does not require a bounce of the database.
If you are unsure of what features are available with each Management Pack you can click the link Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Release 1 Grid Control License Information in the Related Links section see which features correspond with which Management Pack.
Further information on the Management Pack options can be found in the Oracle® Database Licensing Information 11g Release 2 (11.2).
